The Wych or Scots elm (Ulmus glabra) is a native species that responds very well to all bonsai techniques.
It is very hardy and easy to grow having characteristics that make it good for bonsai. This informal upright style tree is 56cm. high with a branch spread of 40cm. The nicely tapering trunk measures a substantial 6cm. across at the base. There is plenty of scope to improve the branch structure and further develop the ramification, a task that is essentially just a grow and prune exercise. The UK hand-made glazed container has been broken and repaired and measures 37x26x6cm.
