Deutzia are deciduous shrubs, often with flaking bark, with simple, opposite leaves and star-shaped or cupped white or pink flowers, sometimes fragrant, in terminal or axillary clusters.
Whilst we are not certain of our identification with this plant we believe it to be the Japanese snow flower or Deutzia gracilis. This species has given rise to many varieties and it may be one of those. It is certainly the only time that we have seen this species grown as bonsai. It features a really interesting and chunky trunk for the overall size of the bonsai which measures 42 cm. in height so is therefore in the chuhin size category. The branching spreads to 44 cm. and at the base that impressive trunk is 14 cm. across. The nice Korean glazed oval ceramic measures 30x22x8 cm. Get yourself a fairly unique bonsai which has a great trunk, quite small leaves and flowers as well !
