Description
The Common or European hornbeam, Carpinus betulus, like all the members of this small genus of trees, has great characteristics for bonsai. Being a native plant to the UK. means that it is well adapted to our conditions even when grown as bonsai.
This particular example is actually a very well developed bonsai with a number of outstanding features, the good nebari or root spread for one. The man branch distribution is also very good, starting at a good point on the trunk and advancing up towards the apex in a good, graduating manner. Secondary branching is well developed and the main area for improvement lies in the creation of more and finer ramification. The tree is 72cm. high with a branch width of 64cm. Across the base at ground level the trunk is 6cm. in diam. The glazed Korean oval pot is 46x34x6cm. This will be a high quality deciduous addition to a bonsai collection.
