Description

Amongst the deciduous tree species with which to do bonsai European beech (Fagus sylvatica) is one of the best, particularly if you are thinking of native tree species.

Very hardy and easy to grow the tree responds great to bonsai techniques and develops quickly as bonsai. Several examples are to be found in the nursery’s private bonsai collection. It is found both as a planted tree and growing wild throughout the UK. and is developed from both nursery stock of all ages as well as wild collected material.

This tree is a bonsai developed from wild collected material. It features a substantial trunk that measures 9cm in diam just above the trunk base and the tree is overall 66cm. high with branches spreading to 50cm. That unusual sweep at the base of the trunk makes a quite unique feature. A reasonable primary branch structure is already in place accompanied by good secondary branching at could certainly be improved with maybe a little wiring and growing and pruning.

Whilst sporting significant ramification it is the area of the tree most in need of improvement but that is just a matter of good growing and pruning. Already potted in a suitable Chinese glazed oval ceramic that measures 33x22x7cm. A native species to have in all bonsai collections in the UK.
