Description

Amongst the deciduous tree species with which to do bonsai European beech, Fagus sylvatica, is one of the best, particularly if you are thinking of native tree species.

It is very hardy and easy to grow the tree responds great to bonsai techniques and develops quickly as bonsai. Several examples are to be found in the nursery’s private bonsai collection. It is found both as a planted tree and growing wild throughout the UK. and is developed from both nursery stock of all ages as well as wild collected material.

This bonsai will have originated as wild collected material or maybe nursery stock. It is clearly still quite young but features a nice shape already despite that. I guess the style would be described as informal upright, it has only just come into leaf and shows signs of strong growth already. Beech are one of our latest of flushing trees. The bonsai has a height of 60cm. and a branch spread of 48cm. within those parameters there already exists quite a complex branch structure. The soil surface roots are 9cm. across and above this the trunk diam. is 2.5cm.  The pot is an oval plastic bonsai trainer 36x29x12cm.
