Description

The Chinese juniper, Juniperus chinensis, is one of the classic Japanese bonsai subjects

Very often created to highlight 3 main elements in the design, significant deadwood both in the form of shari on the trunk and jinned branches, prominent live vein displaying the characteristic chestnut red coloured bark and green foliage areas arranged to best give prominence to the other two elements. Of course, personal preference allows you to create a bonsai to your own taste which may or may not incorporate all or just some of the aforementioned features.

This is a very nicely created informal upright style example originating in Japan.  It does feature the 3 elements mentioned above to give the classic look to this species as bonsai. Nice deadwood by way of both jin and shari, strong prominent live veins and lovely emerald green foliage. The bonsai has a height of 70 cm. and branch spread of 50 cm. The surface roots are 15 cm. across and above that the trunk diam. is 6 cm. The pot of a good quality unglazed ceramic that measures 43x34x9 cm. It is going to be increasingly difficult to import junipers of any standard much less examples such as this.
