This species, European black pine, Pinus nigra, is very unusual  as a bonsai in the UK. Particularly one as spectacular as this. It orginated in Austria as yamadori and a major feature of the trunk is the natural shari and heavy, chunky bark, that is hardly shown to its best in the photo . The jin is part of the design that was created here at Willowbog by Marc Noelanders. The previous owner has steadily formed and refined the branch structure with just more ramification required to complete the final image. Because the species is native to Europe, it thrives here in the UK. It is planted in a Chinese un-glazed ceramic drum pot that is 45 cm. in diam. and 11 cm. deep. From the soil level the tree is 60 cm. high. A great, future show tree to add to any collection.
